If you choose to register a new domain name, your domain is free, and it will be added to your ipage account as primary domain name. And by this there is no need to change domain nameserver to ipage DNS, as its already taken care of. Unless you are using existing domain name for your ipage hosting account, either you are transfer domain or use existing domain name via ipage addon domain… you can point the domain DNS to ipage DNS and this allow you to host your website with ipage and keep your domain with existing domain registrar. For example your domain name is register with namecheap, and you can change its nameserver to point to ipage, and host your website with ipage hosting, and your domain remain at namecheap and manage from there.
